Commenced in 1999, the Post-graduation Program in Health and the Environment is an interdisciplinary perspective that brings the areas of Health and the Environment closer together.

Recognized by the State Council of Education - CEE and by the Coordination of the Development of Higher Level Academic Staff - CAPES, the program has already awarded 243 masters degrees and is currently running the 15th group.

In August 2013, the program received the recommendation of CAPES for the opening of the first Doctorate class, the selection process for which was launched in April 2014.

Course objectives
The aim of the Post-Graduate Program in Health and Environment at Univille (PPGSMA) is to train qualified human resources (Master’s Degree and PhD levels) in health and environment from an interdisciplinary perspective, which can contribute to the formulation and the implementation of public and private policies for environmental conservation and management as well as the development and promotion of actions for improving health and regional development.

Duration of the Master’s Degree course is 24 months and is assigned 24 credits for disciplines and 6 credits for the dissertation. Duration of the Doctoral degree is 48 months, with 36 credits for disciplines and 12 credits for the thesis.

Research lines

  • Health and Disease: Focuses research on aspects of health / disease / care using an interdisciplinary approach seeking to interface with the environment in which the individual is inserted. It includes the development of tools or strategies and processes applied to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases as well as the investigation of their determined genetics, environmental, cultural and epidemiological. The objects of the health evaluation include policies, practices and health services using theoretical and methodological clippings based on the interface of human sciences with public health.

Development of Pharmaceutical Formulations

  • Environmental and Health Quality: Focuses research on abiotic, biotic and socio-cultural aspects of environment, seeking the relationship between environmental quality and human health. Thus, using different approaches, including conducting surveys, diagnostics, experiments, bioassays, analysis and contextual studies aimed at characterizing the environment so as to identify environmental quality indicators or to use them in carrying out monitoring that enables the long-term analysis of environmental issues. It further seeks to develop tools and processes applied to the prevention and mediation of socio-environmental and health problems.
